Christmas time is meant to celebrate with friends and family and we did it in the best Latitud style, with help of our friends of X TU Delft we hosted a christmas party the Latin American way. The first hours were spent decorating the tree together as family, later on attendees enjoyed some traditional food and drinks typical of the holidays like pan de bono and empanadas form Colombia, ponche from Mexico, and Ronpope form costa rica and Venezuela. Of course there was traditional music and our Mexican friends showed us how to sing a traditional Posada, a christmas song in which we remember the journey of Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph. It truly was an evening to remember.
Feliz Navidad !!!! Feliz Natal!! The importance of remembering our roots
Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is perhaps one of the most representative traditions of the Mexican culture. This practice traces back to Mexican precolonial times, even thousands of years back into the Aztec civilization, it is a celebration of our ancestors' lives, in which we not only remember their life and teachings, but we actually invite them to our house to have once again a family time together, drinking and eating their favourite foods while listening to amazing music. This day is not about being afraid of death and darkness it is about being happy for those who came before us and to let them know through our altars how grateful we are for the many lessons and experiences they left us. Celebrating together This holiday is of great importance for us in LATITUD and this is why we have hosted an event to celebrate for 3 consecutive years. In the last edition, around 100 attendants came together to decor the altar with DIY paper flowers and beautifully painted skulls while they enjoyed a traditional Mexican dish provided by our partner SABOR SABOR. Moreover, kids got their face painted and had fun breaking a piñata. The evening ended with a traditional Mexican dance show that represented the importance of remembering our ancestors' lives. If you want to experience it yourself and celebrate together keep posted to know more about 2019 Day of the dead event. See you there!!! |
